Remembering Wimp

My how things have changed. In the late 80’s and early 90’s, you had to order basketball tickets early to make sure you got a seat. The students had to pay money to get tickets; not only did they pay, but the (then larger) student section was packed every game. We went to the sweet 16 five times from 1985-1991, and fans were grumbling because we could not ever get to the elite 8. Fast forward to now, where 3000 fans  show up to watch us squeak by Yale. The student section has not been full in several years, and usually it is about half full. In the last 15 seasons, we have only made the NCAA field 7 times; we made it in the field 10 of the previous 11 years. Wimp was only 58-76 (.433) on the road, but MG is a dismal 27-74 (.267). Wimp was 132-82  in SEC games with two losing records in-conference (12 seasons), while Mark is 81-79 with 5 losing records (10 seasons). Wimp lost 13 home games from 84-92, and four of those were in the 1988 rebuilding year; Mark has lost 13 home games since the start of the 2006 season. Since 2006 (108 games, 64-44, 22-26 SEC), Mark has had 21 double-digit losses; 6 of those are over 20 points, three are over 25 and one is over 30. In Wimp’s last four full seasons (134 games, 98-36, 44-24 SEC) he had 12 double-digit losses; 4 were over 20 points and one was 25.

Stick a fork in him…he’s done.
